Rebecca Reyes is an American contemporary artist known for her precise, design-oriented paintings of common objects and seemingly ordinary scenes that explore the intersection between everyday life and our inner emotional worlds.

After receiving her BA in Art History with a concentration in studio art and design from Lake Forest College, where she was honored with the Art Department award, she pivoted to the sciences, attending medical school and law school to earn both her MD and JD. During this time, she continued to make art, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to her creative practice, even as she dedicated her career to helping those who are struggling with their mental health through her work as a psychiatrist.

Rebecca’s long career as an attending physician on high-intensity, inpatient psychiatric wards of bustling city hospitals profoundly influenced her artistic vision. The deep emotional experiences and unique perspectives she encountered during this time became a wellspring of inspiration, infusing her work with rich emotion and sharp insight into the human condition. As her work illustrates, there is much depth to be found behind the seemingly insignificant scenes of everyday life, and Rebecca aims to unearth this emotional depth through her open-hearted curiosity and minute attention to detail.

Currently, Rebecca’s artwork combines emotionally charged, sometimes impossible perspectives with depictions of everyday objects in familiar settings. Focused on revealing the deep, often hidden attachments and experiences that people associate with ordinary things, Rebecca infuses them with meaning and transforms the mundane into the profound.

A native Chicagoan, Rebecca is currently based in Ventura California.
